The Annual Artists’ Registry Show
Dec 12, 2025 - February 23, 2026
An annual exhibition featuring work from the artists of the San Juan Islands. Each Artists’ Registry member is allowed to submit one work for the show. In this exhibition we had 114 artists submit an artwork. Then comes the task of creating a fun and visually cohesive (as much as possible) show from an incredibly diverse collection of artwork. As there is no theme to the show, artists can submit whatever they feel is a good representation of their work, in whatever medium. Other than restrictions for dimensions, almost anything goes!
For this year I did a basic layout beforehand of the galleries with specific sight lines, as I do for every show, but it isn’t until the artwork gets delivered, that a plan of curation starts to form. Even though I have images, dimensions etc.. of all the pieces in the Artists’ Registry (AR) Show beforehand, it’s impossible to know how to lay it all out until the actual works are in front of you. A challenging but incredibly creative problem to have! This year, 2025-26, I had the amazing help of my talented sister Alison Engle to layout the show. Over two days we maneuvered the 114 artworks until we had them all in position ready for hanging or placement by our team of valued museum volunteers, many of them AR artists.
Always one of the most popular shows of the year with locals and tourists alike, this was another banner year. Check out the pics below and read my blog “Community through Art - producing the AR Show, it takes a village…” from the 2024-25 show, for a better idea of just how the AR Show all comes together :)
Big shout out to Blake, Terry, Mark, Roy, Karen, our amazing volunteers, staff and all the Artists’ Registry artists for making this unique delight of a show happen. Gratitude!
